My name is Arne, and one of my hobbies is taking pictures of the night sky. I use a Unistellar eVscope2, and I started this website to be a catalog of the interesting pictures that I’ve taken, as well as tips, findings, and opinions about the eVscope. I post new updates whenever I get a clear sky and capture some new pictures. The posts are under the “Space on the Back Porch” category in the sidebar, and all the pictures also appear in the category pages linked in the header above.
I was a software leader at Amazon for 18 years, but left in July of 2025. Then, in August 2025, I started writing articles on being a good leader and posting them here. You can find those articles under the “Being a Good Leader” category in the sidebar. I post them weekly on Fridays, both here and on LinkedIn, and a few have gone viral.
I’m also a writer, and I’ve started pitching some of my books. Specifically, The Tale of Twoshirts is planned as a 5-book cozy fantasy series for young adults and the young-at-heart. It’s about a goblin boy that befriends a genie, and wishes that he could grant wishes like his friend. The books chronicle their travels and adventures. The boy, Twoshirts, is compelled to grant wishes, but while he has a little magic, he doesn’t have the full magic of a genie, and therefore has to solve his problems through wit, grit, and luck. As of October 2025, I’ve finished book 1 (including 2 developmental edits & a full end-to-end edit), and I have a full manuscript for book 2. Books 3 has a full outline, book 4 has an outline, and I have the hook & concept for book 5. My goal is to get them published, and in an ideal world, maybe even an animated series or a movie. (Six seasons and a movie? Anyone?)
Part of my “writing practice” is being the Dungeon Master for a weekly D&D group that recently finished a 4.5-year 1-to-20 campaign, and we’re now one year and a half years into campaign 2. I’m about halfway through converting the first half of campaign 1 into a D&D module, with the intent of putting it up on the Dungeon Masters Guild.
I live in Seattle, in the USA. I’ve been fortunate enough in my life to live for a few years in Luxembourg, and I’ve visited India, Japan, most of Europe, many islands in the Caribbean, and several countries in Central America. I’ve never been to South America, Africa, or Southeast Asia (other than Bangalore, India). I have a wife and a couple kids, all of whom are amazing (and my wife is WAY cooler than me).
I earned my A.B. in Computer Science from Brown University in 1994, with a concentration in Artificial Intelligence. Confused? Brown awards its degrees in Latin, so even though I have a bachelor of arts, it’s printed and written as “A.B.” Furthermore, Brown doesn’t do majors or minors; they call them “concentrations.” So when I started my concentration in Artificial Intelligence, there were a set of classes I had to take, like an AI course (obviously) and several CS fundamentals courses, but also a course in cognitive sciences, a linear algebra class, and an educational software class.
Side note: if Brown did minors, mine would’ve been in Shakespeare, since I took every Shakespeare class they offered to undergrads while I was there.
Side side note: I started as a physics major, but switched to CS. I still got my BA in CS and finished in 4 years, though, so yay me!
I deleted my Twitter/X account (I have a strict no Nazi shit policy), and stopped using Facebook (it’s become >50% ads). I will not have any presence there, so any account that looks like me in either of those places isn’t me. I am on BlueSky, and I’m starting to grow my presence there. I am also on LinkedIn. I created two subreddits: https://www.reddit.com/r/TheTaleofTwoshirts/ and https://www.reddit.com/r/Twoshirts/, check ’em out if you want to chat about the books, the vibe, or the world of Twoshirts. I’m not on any other social media like Instagram or TikTok. Feel free to follow me or ping me on either Bluesky or LinkedIn.
